A MyFonts Application

The name says it all. WhatTheFont is a new application from MyFonts.com that helps you uncover font typed used on the web. What’s so special about WhatTheFont? The text doesn’t have to be editable. That’s right, upload an image that contains the font type you are looking to uncover, follow the easy to follow steps, and WhatTheFont will search their huge database of fonts, and return the closest match to your submission.

Many websites use flattened images rather than editable text in headlines and other areas to achieve a stylized look when uncommon fonts are used. While alternatives such as cufon and sIfr are preferable in these instances, they are not always used. So, WhatTheFont is a great way for you to discover just what that really awesome font type is. Try it for yourself!

A&E’s Hoarders: Data Hoarder

This is a really funny video parody of A&E’s Hoarders T.V. show. I’m not this bad…but I do keep lot’s of electronic data. I mean, it’s just storage, it’s so cheap…it can’t be the start of a condition…right?

Make my logo bigger cream!

Have you ever had that client that wants their logo to be the biggest, loudest element on the page? Ever have a client that found some “pretty pictures” they want slapped all over your nice, clean layout. Perhaps a client that thinks ever call to action should be a work of literature to rival War and Peace? Then this video is for you!

I find this video funny only due to the fact that it’s absolutely true. I watch this and I instantly think of so many conversations I’ve had over the years and it makes me laugh. I think my personal favorite part has to be the seal with the big sad eye’s towards the end. If you watch it, you’ll know what I mean. Once you watch it, I’m sure you”ll find you’re own favorite part!

101 Examples of Text Treatment on the Web

Type and treatment is so very important to successful web design, and yet is often overlooked. The style of your text is every bit as important, if not more so, than what you are saying. Proper and imaginative styles tell a story just as the words do, and helps the reader create a subliminal impression before they read a single word. It’s not just about what you say, but also how you say it. Your style doesn’t have to overly dramatic to make a point. Often times simple changes and additions make the biggest impact. Check out the link below to see some great examples. Lately, I have become a big fan of the “hand-drawn” or “handwritten” effect. You can check that one out at number 5.

Paper in Web Design

Paper…a dead medium? I disagree. I love the well designed integration of paper in a web-site layout. It merges a traditional feel in a new way that helps users instantly connect. Some of the best designs can be achieved by combining old and new in a way that is unexpected, but visually pleasing. Check out this compilation of 30 sites which have done managed to do it right. I also love the way many of these sites present images in a mock “Polaroid” style.

21 Brilliant Photos That Look Like They’re Photoshopped But Are Not

I am a fan of great photography, and I am amazed at how Photoshop can help you manipulate and change your photo’s in order to achieve results you never could with a lens alone. What makes these photographs all the more brilliant is the fact that they have not been “Photoshopped”. The images and actions captured in these images are all real as real can be. It makes you appreciate patience, an eye for the original, and also being in the right place at the right time.
